Britax Regent
December 2nd, 2009Believe it or not this is the first decent car seat and I’ve found that makes use of a five point harness for children that exceed 40 pounds. My 2 1/2 year old isn’t quite mature enough to be able to use a booster seat and a seatbelt quite yet, even being 44 pounds and 40 inches tall. The Britax Regent car seat is the only one that offers the five point harness system, and you can even use it with children that way up to 80 pounds. Unfortunately it doesn’t come with a seatbelt positioner but that’s not really gonna be a big problem since the five point harness is probably going to be safer for my kid, and honestly I couldn’t put my child in only a free-floating booster seat and a seatbelt in good conscience.
Another really important aspect for me is that my toddler be able to easily get himself into the seat being as it rests on the lower car seat, as opposed to having to lift him up into the old car seat we just got rid of. It doesn’t come with cup holders or armrests, but the very well padded seat cover includes mesh nets on both sides for whatever you want to put in it. The straps and seat cover are also really easy to take off to wash them. It was really quick and easy latching the seat inside my car and making the straps adjust to fit my child was also very easy. Once my child weighs 40 pounds, I’ll have to start using the seatbelt to attach the seat into my car, but that looks very simple to do as well.
I was really shocked when my child turned out to be in the 100th percentile in size, and now I’m wishing I’d bought a Britax Regent the first time.
